Truckee River Whitewater Rafting Information

I.R.I.E. Rafting Company is a locally owned and operated whitewater rafting outfitter located in Truckee California just minutes from the Truckee River. We have been serving the Truckee / Tahoe area for over 20 years and know how to make your Truckee whitewater rafting trip the highlight of your vacation. The 2017 Whitewater season will bring lots of water and we anticipate offering two trip options on the Truckee River most of the Summer.

Truckee River Raft Rentals ?

We are not the raft rental companies that operate on the "float Section" of the Truckee River from Tahoe City to River Ranch Bar & Grill.

We only offer guided whitewater rafting trips on a section that is lower on the Truckee River towards the Nevada state line. Often times we are operating when the rental companies are shut down either due to the water level being to high to float under the bridges or to low to float over the rocks. If you are having trouble getting ahold of the Truckee Raft Rentals check with us for more information on water levels or other options for floating on the Truckee River.

Other Sections on the Truckee River

High water levels on the truckee River during the beginning of the 2017 season means more rafting trip options for you!

Not only will the standard Bocca to Floriston "Lower Gorge" run on the Truckee River have water throughout the 2017 season but there will also be good flows on the longer Bocca to Verdi full-day rafting trip through early summer. The Verdi to Reno "Gorilla Falls" Section (class II+) will also have water this spring and other whitewater outfitters in the are will be diverting most truckee trips to this section, while we do not typically operate on this section we are available to take large groups on this slightly easier section of the Truckee River.

2017 Truckee River Water Outlook

Water Flows on the Truckee River will be well above average in 2017! and beyond...

Many of California's reservoirs are already nearing capacities from intense rain storms this winter and there is still tons of snow melt coming. The Truckee River will have high water levels all spring and into the summer. We do intend to operate on the Bocca - Floriston (Truckee Gorge) section throughout the season, however due to high water levels please understand that the minimum age for the Truckee, trip times and availability may fluctuate. We also reserve the right to move your trip to a different section of the Truckee river if water levels dictate.

The Truckee River begins with relaxing Class II boulder gardens and swimming pools and increases in intensity. Half way through the trip, the rapids become larger and closer together until we reach the top of the Floriston Gorge. The river narrows, becomes steeper, and descends its last mile through a series of  Class III and III+ rapids including Jaws  and Bronco Rapids. Hang on! Read a detailed description from California Creeks here.

Amazing time. My wife and went with our kids and some of their friends and everyone had a blast. The guides were all very friendly and incredible at what they do. I would do it again and would recommend it to all my friends.

The Truckee River runs northeast through the sierra mountains from it's origin at Lake Tahoe. The Truckee River flows from Tahoe City down to the Town of Truckee and out  through the Martis Valley before descending out of the mountains to the Nevada basin on its 121 mile journey to pyramid lake.

This section of river is highly affected by dams and other water use, due to this flows are typically only optimal in the Spring during snow melt off.
